Gemira Trading is one of the fastest growing hardware companies in Malawi. Its main shop is in Lilongwe Area 3, in Regional Commissioner of Lands Opposite Bakers Pride, dealing with electrical, plumbing, safety, hardware, and building materials.
Gemira Trading is looking for an Accounting Assistant to perform daily accounting tasks that will support our financial team.
Position Overview
The Accounting Assistant responsibilities include preparing statutory accounts, entering financial transactions into our internal databases, and reconciling invoices and daily sales. Ultimately, this person will help our Accounting Department run smoothly, ensuring transparency and efficiency in all transactions.
Accounts Assistant Work Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining the computerized accounting system and ensuring timely posting of financial transactions
- Ensure appropriate inventory management in a system, filing, cashbooks management, cheque dispatch register, advances register, account receivable/payable registers, fixed assets register, petty cash register, General Ledger, etc., and ensure filing of payment vouchers and other financial records are done daily, accurately, and in an organized manner
- Prepare and check completeness of payment vouchers including reviewing and checking payment supporting documents for accuracy of any computations and calculations and correct coding
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements for operating and holding bank accounts by the 5th day of each month
- Provide inputs required for the preparation of monthly management accounts

Experience and Academic Qualifications Requirements
The person should have:
- A Diploma in Accounting or Finance from a reputable university recognized by NCHE
- Two to three years' experience in a similar position from a reputable company
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word Processing, Spreadsheet (Excel), PowerPoint, Publisher, and also knowledgeable in Internet and Email
- Fluent in English and Chichewa
