About the Organisation

The Malawi Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (MANET+) established in 1997 is a membership-based umbrella organization that brings together networks, support groups, and associations of people living with HIV across Malawi.

MANET+ is incorporated under the Trustees Incorporation Act (Cap. 5.30) of the Laws of Malawi and is registered by The NGO Regulatory Authority and Council for Non-Governmental Organisations (CONGOMA).

The Network works to promote the rights, dignity, health, and wellbeing of people living with HIV through advocacy, capacity strengthening, community systems strengthening, strategic partnerships, and meaningful involvement of people living with HIV in all aspects of the national HIV response.

To provide strategic leadership and drive the Network's vision and impact, MANET+ invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Executive Director.


Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide overall strategic, programmatic, financial, and operational leadership to the Network. The successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening the organization's institutional capacity, leading advocacy initiatives, mobilizing resources, building strategic partnerships, and ensuring effective implementation of the Network's strategic plan.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Governance

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance the mission and objectives of the Network
  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, and review of the Network's strategic plan
  • Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, legal requirements, and donor regulations

Advocacy and Representation

  • Lead national advocacy efforts to promote the rights, health, and wellbeing of people living with HIV
  • Represent the Network in national, regional, and international forums, including government, development partner, and civil society platforms
  • Strengthen the meaningful involvement of people living with HIV in policy formulation, programme design, and decision-making processes

Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Development

  • Develop and implement sustainable resource mobilisation strategies
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with government ministries, development partners, donors, civil society organizations, and community structures
  • Lead proposal development, donor engagement, and grant acquisition efforts

Programme and Organisational Management

  • Oversee effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programmes
  • Ensure sound financial management and stewardship of organizational resources
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff and consultants
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, learning, and high performance


Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • A Master's Degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience in the NGO, public health, development, or civil society sector
  • Demonstrated experience in HIV/AIDS programming, community health, advocacy, human rights, or social development
  • Proven success in fundraising, donor engagement, and grant management
  • Strong understanding of Malawi's HIV response architecture, including community-led responses and health systems strengthening
  • Experience working with government institutions, development partners, and civil society networks
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong financial and organizational management capabilities

Terms of Appointment

The position is based in Lilongwe and requires periodic travel within Malawi and internationally. The Network offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
