Position: Field Officer – Ngabu Iceland Project

Location: Ngabu, Chikwawa District

Employment Type: Full-Time Fixed Contract

Contract Duration: Two (2) Years (Renewable subject to funding availability and performance)

Reports To: Iceland Project Manager

OVERVIEW

SOS Children’s Villages Malawi is a non-governmental child protection and development organisation working to ensure that children grow up with love, respect, security, and family care.

The organisation is seeking a suitable candidate to join the Ngabu Iceland Project as a Field Officer. The successful candidate will support the implementation of family strengthening activities by building the capacity of vulnerable families, community-based organisations, and community structures to improve child protection, education, health, and development outcomes.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Participation

• Support Community Task Forces in identifying project participants.

• Facilitate children’s participation in Family Strengthening processes.

• Support identification and training of community facilitators and peer educators in Family Development Planning.

Planning and Budgeting

• Support families and communities in assessing challenges affecting child care and protection.

• Facilitate identification of local resources and opportunities to support community action plans.

Capacity Building of Families and Communities

• Support training of facilitators and peer educators on Family Development Planning.

• Facilitate access to child rights, protection, and other relevant trainings.

• Support development of Community-Based Organisation (CBO) capacity, including governance structures, policies, registration, and strategic plans.

Networking and Partnerships

• Maintain relationships with community structures, government departments, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

• Identify opportunities for partnerships within the project area.

• Support effective service delivery to programme participants.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Participate in project monitoring and evaluation activities.

• Conduct regular visits to families, CBOs, and community partners.

• Prepare and submit progress reports on project activities.

Child Safeguarding and Protection

• Ensure compliance with child safeguarding, prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, harassment, and asset safeguarding policies.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Agriculture, or any relevant field from a recognised university.

• At least three (3) years’ experience implementing child and community development programmes.

• Good understanding of child rights, rights-based programming, and management of CBOs.

• Good communication and reporting skills.

• A valid motorcycle licence is a must.
