Danish Red Cross (DRC) has been working in partnership with Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) since the 1980s, supporting community health programmes and humanitarian initiatives. The organisation works to ensure vulnerable communities are protected and less affected by disasters and crises.

Job Summary

Danish Red Cross is seeking a Health Programme Manager to support the management of health programmes in Malawi, provide technical guidance to Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS), strengthen partnerships, and support the development and growth of health and humanitarian initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support planning, coordination, implementation, quality assurance, and reporting of health programmes.
  • Provide technical guidance and build capacity within Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS).
  • Coordinate with consortium partners and stakeholders involved in health and humanitarian programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and support timely reporting.
  • Lead coordination, planning, and execution of programme steering committee meetings.
  • Support emergency response interventions and integrate approaches including Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), and Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA).
  • Support development of new project initiatives to strengthen the Malawi programme portfolio.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Global Health, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience in health projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, reporting, and financial management.
  • Proven experience in project design and proposal writing.
  • Technical experience and knowledge in the Health Sector.
  • Experience in partnership building and inter-institutional coordination in health programmes.
  • Experience working with local partners and implementing through partnerships.
  • Experience developing and implementing EU/ECHO funded projects is an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear guidance and strengthen partner capacity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent is an added advantage.
  • Experience in Community Based Health and First Aid approaches.
  • Experience in Primary Health Care, Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, and Reproductive Health.
  • Knowledge of Livelihoods and Youth Empowerment programmes.
  • Experience in Programme Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEAL).
  • Experience in facilitation and knowledge transfer.
  • Valid driver’s licence is an added advantage.

Contract Details

  • Initial contract duration: 12 months with possibility of extension.
  • Expected start date: Before 1st September 2026.
  • Duty station: Malawi Red Cross Headquarters, Lilongwe.
