Job Description

The Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical association of Church-owned facilities in Malawi and the Secretariat is the central coordination unit of the Association. CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi with 194 Health Facilities and 11 Training Colleges which are located in all parts of the country. Most of the Health Facilities are situated in the remote and hard-to-reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide technical support, and develop health services among all member facilities in order to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi.

Purpose

To provide strategic leadership and oversight in the delivery of quality health services across CHAM facilities and ensure compliance with national and international quality standards. The role will strengthen systems for continuous quality improvement, capacity building, and effective coordination with stakeholders, including mobilization of resources.

Responsibilities

  1. Providing overall supervision and technical guidance to the Health Services Department and CHAM Units to ensure effective implementation of health programs
  2. Overseeing mentorship and capacity-building initiatives in Infection Prevention, HIV/ART, Reproductive Health, and other relevant Ministry of Health (MoH) policies and guidelines
  3. Participating in proposal development and resource mobilization efforts for the Secretariat, including partnership development and donor engagement
  4. Coordinating with regulatory and accreditation bodies to ensure CHAM facilities meet required healthcare standards and maintain accreditation status
  5. Providing strategic support to facilities in meeting compliance requirements of professional regulatory bodies such as Medical, Nursing, and Pharmacy Councils
  6. Leading and managing health services projects
  7. Driving continuous quality improvement initiatives in CHAM Units by identifying gaps, recommending interventions, and overseeing implementation of corrective actions
  8. Overseeing the coordination of the CHAM–MoH MoU including Service Level Agreement (SLA) Programme to ensure efficiency and accountability
  9. Leading infrastructure and systems strengthening initiatives, including preventive maintenance programs and health facility development
  10. Ensuring data quality and utilization through supervision of HMIS processes, routine data validation, and audits for informed decision-making
  11. Providing leadership in operational research, promoting evidence-based interventions to improve service delivery across CHAM facilities

Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) plus Master's Degree in any field
  2. Four years' experience in running quality assurance programmes in a health care setting
  3. Implementation and management of health related and international health and development programs funded by development partners

  1. Strong leadership, supervisory and networking skills
  2. Proven experience in health systems management and quality assurance
  3. Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills
  4. Strong analytical, monitoring and evaluation capabilities
  5. Ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage multiple programs
  6. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and results oriented
  7. A team player with ability to work in a diverse group
