2. Position Purpose

The Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment across all construction and operational sites. The role ensures effective implementation of occupational health and safety (OHS) systems, prevention of accidents and occupational illnesses, and compliance with applicable safety legislation and company policies.

4. Key Duties and Responsibilities

4.1 Occupational Health and Safety Management

  • Implement and enforce workplace health and safety procedures in line with company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments at all sites.
  • Ensure proper use, availability, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor site activities to ensure adherence to safe work practices and construction safety standards.

 

4.2 Training and Safety Awareness

  • Conduct safety inductions for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Facilitate regular toolbox talks and refresher safety training sessions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and safe behavior among employees.

 

4.3 Incident Management and Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit safety reports, accident investigation reports, and inspection records.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and registers.

 

4.4 Compliance, Audits and Monitoring

  • Ensure compliance with national occupational health and safety regulations and construction safety requirements.
  • Monitor contractors’ and subcontractors’ compliance with safety standards.

4.5 Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.

5. Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

 

5.1 Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

 

5.2 Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant work experience in Occupational Health and Safety within construction, engineering, petroleum, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • Proven hands-on experience in site-based safety management, including:
  • Conducting regular site safety inspections and audits
  • Performing hazard identification and risk assessments
  • Enforcing PPE compliance and safe work procedures

4. Key Duties and Responsibilities

4.1 Installation & Commissioning

  • Install and wire fuel dispensers, pump motors, control panels, and associated electrical systems.
  • Conduct electrical connections for underground and above-ground tank systems.
  • Install and configure tank gauging systems, sensors, and monitoring equipment.
  • Perform electrical testing and commissioning of pumps and dispensing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings, schematics, and electrical codes.

 

4.2 Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in fuel pumps, motors, control panels, and monitoring systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical components of petroleum infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to power supply, wiring faults, circuit breakers, relays, and automation systems.

4. Key Duties and Responsibilities

4.1 Installation & Commissioning

The Light Cargo Vehicle Driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to transport personnel, tools, materials, and equipment to and from project sites. The role ensures vehicles are maintained in good condition, operated responsibly, and driven in compliance with road safety and organizational standards.

4.1 Vehicle Operation

  • Safely drive company light cargo vehicles (pickup trucks, vans, and staff cars).
  • Transport personnel, equipment, and materials to project sites on schedule.
  • Plan routes efficiently to avoid delays and minimize travel risks.
  • Ensure safe loading and unloading of materials.
  • Assist in minor vehicle-related tasks during project operations, such as moving light equipment.

 

4.2 Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance

  • Conduct pre-trip inspections, including brakes, lights, tyres, fuel, and engine oil.
  • Report mechanical faults or damages immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of vehicles.

  • Assist in vehicle handover documentation between shifts.

 

5. Qualifications & Experience

5.1 Minimum Requirements

  • MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education) or equivalent.
  • Valid Malawi Driver’s License for Vehicles (Class C1 or equivalent).
  • Defensive driving or professional driving training is an added advantage.

 

5.2 Experience

  • Minimum 5 – 8 years’ experience driving 5 tons vehicles in a professional or construction environment.
  • Experience in transporting personnel and materials to active project sites is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Malawi road networks and project site protocols is an advantage.

 

6. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Safe and responsible driving skills
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
  • Good navigation and route planning
  • Punctuality and time management
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • High level of responsibility, alertness, and situational awareness.
