POSITION 1: WATER BOWSER OPERATOR (2 POSITIONS)

Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term

Department: Plant & Equipment

Reporting to: Project Manager, Site Manager & Plant & Workshop Manager

JOB TYPE: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY

The Water Bowser Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of water bowser trucks used on construction sites and related work areas. The primary purpose of the role is to transport and distribute water for dust suppression, road construction, compaction, concrete works, site cleaning, and other approved construction activities. The operator is responsible for the safe operation, basic maintenance, and proper care of the assigned water bowser while complying with company procedures, Malawi road traffic requirements, and construction-site health and safety standards.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Must possess a valid Malawian driver's licence of the appropriate class for the water bowser being operated.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience operating water bowsers, tankers, tipper trucks, or other heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Previous experience in construction, road works, quarrying, mining, or civil engineering projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience operating water pumps, spray bars, hoses, valves, and similar equipment is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of heavy-vehicle operation and routine maintenance.
  • Knowledge of road safety and construction-site safety procedures.
  • Defensive-driving or professional-driver training is an advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate the assigned water bowser on public roads, construction sites, quarry areas, and access roads.
  • Transport water from approved sources to designated construction sites and work areas.
  • Spray and distribute water for dust suppression on roads, haul roads, work areas, and stockpile areas.
  • Apply water to surfaces during road construction and earthworks to support compaction activities.
  • Operate the bowser's pumps, spray bars, hoses, valves, nozzles, and other water-distribution equipment safely.
  • Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor regarding water requirements, locations, quantities, and application schedules.
  • Carry out daily pre-start inspections of the vehicle and water-bowser equipment.
  • Check engine oil, coolant, fuel, tyres, brakes, lights, hydraulic systems, pump systems, hoses, valves, and water tank components.
  • Ensure the water tank, pump, pipes, hoses, spray bars, and other fittings are in good working condition.
  • Report mechanical faults, leaks, damaged hoses, pump problems, or other defects immediately to the supervisor or mechanic.
  • Perform basic routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and inspection as required.
  • Monitor water levels and ensure the bowser is filled only from authorized water sources.
  • Operate the vehicle and water-distribution system in a manner that prevents unnecessary water wastage.
  • Maintain accurate records of water collection, trips, operating hours, and work performed where required.
  • Follow assigned routes, work schedules, and site instructions.
  • Observe all applicable road traffic laws, site speed limits, and construction-site traffic-management procedures.
  • Exercise caution when driving, reversing, filling, parking, and spraying around workers, vehicles, machinery, excavations, buildings, and other hazards.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked safely and secured when not in use.
  • Keep the water bowser clean and in a safe and roadworthy condition.
  • Immediately report accidents, near misses, breakdowns, environmental incidents, or damage involving the vehicle.
  • Assist with other site activities when reasonably required and where the employee is appropriately trained and competent.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by management.



POSITION 2: DRUM ROLLER OPERATOR (2 POSITIONS)

Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term

Department: Plant & Equipment

Reporting to: Project Manager, Site Manager & Plant & Workshop Manager

JOB TYPE: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY

The Drum Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of drum rollers and compacting equipment used in construction and road projects. The primary responsibility is to compact soil, gravel, sub-base, base course, asphalt, and other construction materials to the required density, level, and finish in accordance with project specifications and instructions. The operator is responsible for the proper care and routine maintenance of the assigned machine and must comply with company procedures, site requirements, and health and safety standards.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Relevant training or certification in heavy plant or construction equipment operation is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience operating drum rollers or similar compaction equipment.
  • Previous experience in road construction, civil works, earthworks, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • Practical knowledge of soil, gravel, sub-base, and asphalt compaction.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings, work instructions, and compaction requirements is an advantage.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify machine faults.
  • Knowledge of construction-site health and safety requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate single-drum, double-drum, or other approved roller-compaction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Compact soil, gravel, sub-base, base course, asphalt, and other materials according to project requirements.
  • Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor, Foreman, or Project Engineer regarding areas to be compacted and required compaction procedures.
  • Operate the roller at appropriate speeds and vibration settings according to the material and site conditions.
  • Maintain the required number of passes and appropriate overlap to achieve the required compaction.
  • Monitor the surface being compacted and identify uneven areas, soft spots, excessive vibration, or other abnormalities.
  • Work closely with graders, water bowser operators, tipper drivers, and other plant operators to achieve the required road or site finish.
  • Carry out daily pre-start and post-operation inspections of the roller.
  • Check engine oil, coolant, fuel, hydraulic fluid, tyres, drums, brakes, lights, steering, vibration systems, and other critical components.
  • Check the condition and cleanliness of the roller drums and scraper systems.
  • Report mechanical faults, oil leaks, unusual noises, vibration problems, or other defects immediately to the supervisor or mechanic.
  • Perform basic routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and servicing checks as authorized.
  • Keep the machine clean and in good operating condition.
  • Operate the machine within designated work areas and according to the approved site traffic-management plan.
  • Maintain safe distances from workers, vehicles, excavations, structures, and other equipment.
  • Exercise particular caution when reversing and use a banksman/spotter where required.
  • Ensure the roller is parked safely and securely when not in operation.
  • Complete machine-hour records, inspection checklists, fuel records, and other required documentation.
  • Report daily operating hours and any issues affecting productivity or machine performance.
  • Use the machine responsibly to minimize fuel consumption, unnecessary wear, and damage.
  • Comply with all site safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.



POSITION 3: STORES DATA CLERK (1 POSITION)

Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term

Department: Operations/Administration

Reporting to: Project Manager & Procurement & Stores Manager

JOB TYPE: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY

The Stores Data Clerk is responsible for accurately recording, updating, and maintaining inventory and stores-related information for the construction company. The role supports the efficient control of construction materials, tools, spare parts, equipment, PPE, and other items received, issued, transferred, or returned through the stores. The position ensures that physical stock movements are properly documented and accurately reflected in the company's stock records or inventory management system.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
  • Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Stores Management, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Accounting, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years' experience in stores, inventory, data entry, logistics, or a related role.
  • Experience in a construction company, engineering company, quarry, manufacturing environment, or similar industry is an advantage.
  • Previous experience using inventory or accounting software is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with stock cards, inventory registers, GRNs, requisitions, and stock reconciliation is an advantage.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent data-entry and record-keeping skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good knowledge of inventory and stores procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and spreadsheet management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enter and maintain accurate stores and inventory data in the company's computer system, spreadsheets, or inventory management software.
  • Record all goods received, goods issued, stock transfers, returns, and adjustments promptly and accurately.
  • Prepare and process Goods Received Notes (GRNs), Goods Issue Notes, Material Requisition Forms, Delivery Notes, and other stores documentation.
  • Update stock cards, bin cards, inventory registers, and electronic stock records.
  • Ensure that quantities, item descriptions, units of measurement, and item codes are correctly recorded.
  • Match delivered materials against purchase orders, delivery notes, and other supporting documentation.
  • Assist the Stores Officer/Manager in monitoring stock levels and identifying items that require replenishment.
  • Maintain accurate records of construction materials such as cement, aggregates, steel, timber, pipes, fittings, fuel-related items, tools, PPE, and other site consumables.
  • Record the movement of spare parts and maintenance materials issued to plant, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Assist with regular physical stock counts and reconcile physical quantities against system records.
  • Investigate and report discrepancies between physical stock and recorded stock.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for stores documents and ensure documents can be retrieved when required.
  • Ensure all stores transactions are properly authorized before processing.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly stock movement reports as required.
  • Provide accurate inventory information to the Stores, Procurement, Finance, and Project teams.
  • Assist in monitoring slow-moving, damaged, obsolete, or excess stock.
  • Maintain records of materials issued to individual construction sites, projects, departments, or employees.
  • Support the preparation of stock valuation and inventory reports where required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of company inventory and stores information.
  • Follow company procedures relating to purchasing, inventory control, documentation, and data management.
  • Report any irregularities, missing documentation, unauthorized stock movements, or suspected losses to the supervisor.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by management.
