Job Description
Save the Children is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Coordinator to lead the implementation of the AGREE Malawi – Agroforestry for Resilient Management and Ecosystem Balance for Malawi Project, based in Chikwawa with frequent travel to Mwanza District. The project is a 36-month initiative funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) aimed at increasing the productivity and income of smallholder farmers through sustainable agroforestry practices while promoting resilient socio-ecological systems that improve food security and climate adaptation.
As a key member of the Programme Operations team, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of project activities to ensure timely and high-quality implementation. The role will ensure compliance with donor requirements, effective monitoring of results, and the efficient use of project resources.
The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for strengthening collaboration with District government departments, community structures, consortium partners, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and sustainability of results. The role will supervise two Project Facilitators and contribute to strengthening programme quality, learning, and accountability.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and adjust working hours accordingly.
To be successful, you will bring/have:
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Community Development, Rural Development, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience managing agriculture, agroforestry, or livelihoods-related projects targeting smallholder farmers.
• Demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects, including planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
• Strong project management, financial planning, and budgeting skills.
• Experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) and results-based programme implementation.
• Experience working with district government counterparts and community structures.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong partnerships.
• Strong team leadership and coordination skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to Save the Children’s values and mission.
