Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of Acid Plant Electrical Assistant at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.

JOB PURPOSE:

The General Assistant provides direct support to qualified artisans (e.g., boilermakers, fitters, electricians, welders, instruments, etc.) in executing maintenance, repair, and installation tasks. This role is responsible for preparing tools and equipment, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, assisting during breakdowns and shutdowns, and ensuring efficient workflow. The General Assistant plays a key role in promoting productivity, safety, and operational continuity within the maintenance team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safety Incidents: Achieve a Zero number of safety incidents or near misses, with strict adherence to PPE and worksite safety protocols.
• Housekeeping Standards: Compliant to clean workshop and work areas.
• Job Readiness Support: Availability of tools and materials before task start.
• Tool and Equipment Care: % of tools returned in working condition and properly stored.
• Breakdown Response Time: Time taken to respond to and assist with resolving breakdowns.
• Work Quality: Ensuring good housekeeping practices and keeping tools clean.
• Job Completion Rate: Timely execution of tasks per job cards and work schedules.

PLANNING AND SCHEDULING INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Attend daily planning and toolbox talks to understand task priorities and safety considerations.
• Assist in preparing work areas, gathering materials, and staging parts in alignment with job schedules.
• Support artisans in executing ad hoc maintenance, breakdown maintenance, PM maintenance, shutdown maintenance, emergency repairs or any other tasks that might be required.
• Ensure availability of the correct tools as well as their fitness for use and correct PPE, before work begins.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• MSCE Certificate or equivalent or Higher Education.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fixed/acid plant.
