Job Description

OVERVIEW 

The Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe operates around approximately 24,025 km² across Dowa, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Mchinji, Nkhotakota, Ntchisi & Salima districts. It serves approximately 1.83 million catholic faithful through pastoral work and reaches out to a larger community across Malawi through its social development interventions tackling various needs of the Malawian population.


To meet its financial responsibilities and be able to move closer to self-reliance and at the same time maintain its social services mandate, the Archdiocese ventured into several investments through its industries and some of which are:


Likuni Phala factory located in Namitete: Production of nutritious flour for Likuni Phala


Namitete Furniture & Joinery located in Namitete: Carpentry workshop in Namitete town producing school desks, church pews, doors and household furniture etc.

LIKUNI PHALA FACTORY


Position: Factory Manager (1 post)


Position Overview


The Factory Manager will oversee the daily operations of a flour processing facility specializing in the production of nutritious flour for porridge. This role requires a strong foundation in nutrition to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance with health standards, while also managing staff, resources, and production efficiency.


Key Responsibilities


Production Oversight: Supervise and coordinate all stages of flour production, ensuring adherence to nutritional standards and food safety regulations.


Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control systems to guarantee consistency, hygiene, and nutritional value of products.


Staff Management: Lead, train, and motivate factory staff to achieve operational targets while maintaining a safe and positive work environment.


Resource Management: Oversee procurement and inventory of raw materials, packaging, and equipment, ensuring cost-effective and timely supply.


Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with national food safety laws, occupational health standards, and environmental regulations.


Reporting: Prepare regular production, financial, and compliance reports for senior management.


Innovation: Collaborate with nutritionists and product developers to improve flour formulations and introduce new fortified products.


Customer Focus: Maintain strong relationships with distributors, NGOs, and community programs promoting nutritious porridge.


Qualifications


Minimum of Diploma in Nutrition.


Additional training in Food Science, Food Technology, or Production Management is an added advantage.


Minimum of 3 years’ experience in food processing, nutrition-focused production, or factory management.


Strong knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000).


Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.


Proficiency in basic computer applications for reporting and inventory management.
