Job Description
Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about the work of a diplomatic mission and how the European Union represents its interests and values in Malawi?
We offer a traineeship of up to 6 months in 2026 within the Political, Press & Information Section of the EU Delegation to Malawi. The tentative start date is 1st October 2026.
For a motivated candidate who has acquired skills in research, analysis, drafting and presenting, to contribute to the work of the Political, Press and Information Section. The successful candidate should demonstrate a hands-on, pro-active attitude, openness to learning, and eagerness to contribute ideas.
Main Tasks:
- Conduct in-depth research on key issues of interest (e.g., current affairs, elections, key government institutions, institutions advancing human rights, democracy, accountability and civic participation, civil society in Malawi, etc.)
- Contribute to analysis of current affairs which have a bearing on the EU's position in Malawi
- Drafting reports, fact sheets, articles
- Preparation of communication materials, incl. via social media channels
- Contribute to EU's public diplomacy through events, social media and all manner of interactions, under strict supervision, with Malawian authorities, institutions, entities, agencies, CSOs and the general public
- Support with general and administrative tasks within the PPI section
Requirements
Qualifications or Special Requirements:
- Taking into account the local health and security conditions, only applicants currently residing in Malawi will be considered
- A Bachelor's degree in political science, diplomacy, international relations, peace and conflict studies
- A keen understanding of Malawi's politics, economics and governance and of international cooperation
- Candidates must have less than one year of professional experience after their graduation by the signing of the Traineeship agreement (other traineeships or student jobs or volunteering works carried out during university or after graduation are not considered as professional experience), and no previous experience of more than six weeks in the EU Institutions
- Fluency in English
- Excellent analytical and drafting skills
- A hands-on, pro-active, 'consider it done' attitude, openness to learning, and an eagerness to contribute ideas

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states: must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation; must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable.
