The Digital Health Division (DHD) of the Ministry of Health leads the implementation, management, and support of national digital health systems. The division oversees the Medical Equipment Management Information System (MEMIS), which supports the registration, maintenance, tracking, and management of medical equipment across health facilities nationwide. The team works closely with facilities, districts, and regional maintenance units to ensure effective system utilization, data quality, and continuous system improvement.
The Internship Role:
The intern will support the national rollout and operationalization of MEMIS by providing Level 1 and Level 2 user support to health facilities. The project includes managing user support requests, maintaining support documentation, assisting with user onboarding and refresher trainings, tracking recurring user challenges, and contributing to improved system adoption and user satisfaction across the country.
What You Will Gain:
The intern will gain hands-on experience supporting a nationally deployed digital health system, exposure to health informatics and health systems strengthening, practical skills in helpdesk management, user support, training facilitation, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and problem resolution. The internship will also provide opportunities to work with Ministry of Health digital health professionals and build experience relevant to careers in ICT, Health Informatics, Malawi Healthcare Information System (MaHIS), Information Systems, and Digital Health.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide first-line support to MEMIS users
Respond to user inquiries and troubleshoot access and navigation issues
Log, categorize, and track support requests through the MOH helpdesk
Assist with workflow-related support issues and data correction requests
Support user onboarding and refresher trainings
Develop and update FAQs, user guides, and support documentation
Participate in system rollout activities and user support monitoring
Analyze recurring support issues and prepare summary reports for DHD
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
Degree or final-year student in ICT, Health Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
Basic understanding of digital health systems
Familiarity with DHIS2 or Ministry of Health digital systems is an added advantage
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
Good documentation and record-keeping skills
Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn
