VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT – ST. ANDREWS CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Background
The Diocese of Karonga through the Education Desk office has the mandate of providing quality, efficient and effective education to the people it serves within its jurisdiction. The Diocese of Karonga has well established secondary and primary schools. In addition to establishing St. Denis Catholic Primary School in 2024, the Diocese of Karonga intends to open a new Co-Education (Boys and Girls) Catholic Primary School in Chitipa District, known as St. Andrews Catholic Primary School. The school is located to the western side of Chitipa Airport, near St. Andrews Catholic Outstation along the Katutula road branching from Chitipa MRA offices. Following this background, the Diocese would like to recruit suitably qualified persons for the following positions;
1. Head teacher (1 post)
Duties and responsibilities
- Promoting quality education and maintaining standards.
- Promote discipline at the school.
- Preparing lessons and delivering them in class.
- Checking and marking schemes and records of work.
- Checking lesson plans for all teaching staff.
- Promote education friendly environment for learners at school.
- Conducting general assembly.
- Ensuring good relationship between the school and the community.
- Conduct teacher and support staff appraisals.
- Coordinating and directing school activities or programs.
- Interpreting and implementing government policies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must possess a T2 certificate of education from a recognized Teachers Training College.
- Must have knowledge of Catholic social teachings/Values.
- Must have at least 10 years of experience in teaching and as head teacher.
2. Deputy Head teacher (1 post)
Duties and responsibilities
- Preparing master time table
- Chairing and participating in disciplinary meetings
- Checking schemes of work and lesson plans.
- Checking test items
- Act on behalf of the head teacher in her/his absence.
- Allocate teaching subjects to responsible teaching staff.
- Assist the Head teacher in supervising teaching at the school.
- Any other duty assigned from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must possess a T2 certificate of Education from recognized Teachers Training College.
- Must have at least 5 years of teaching experience and in leadership position.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Social teaching is a must
3. Primary School Teachers (multiple positions)
Duties and responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes and records of work.
- Prepare teaching and learning materials adequately.
- Ensure and create a conducive learning environment for students.
- Teach and assess students using appropriate methodologies.
- Maintain teaching and assess records effectively.
- Involve students in extra-curricular activities.
- Assist school authorities in maintaining and enforcing school rules and regulations.
- Keeping records of work, scholastic records and registers for learners.
- Provide guidance and counselling to learners.
- Taking care and managing school property.
- Follow up on students’ performance and behavior and report to parents, guardians and relevant authorities.
- Any other duty assigned from time to time.
Qualifications & experience
- Must possess a T2 certificate of Education from recognized Teachers Training College.
- Knowledge of Catholic Social Teachings is a must.
- Must be very passionate with the teaching profession.
- Must have proven teaching experience.
4. School Bursar (1 post)
Duties and responsibilities
- Keeping files and records for maintenance.
- Advising the head teacher on financial matters.
- Collecting school fees in Liaison with the Head teacher.
- Supervising stores.
- Any other duty assigned from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must have an Accounting certificate.
- Must have at least 2 years or more experience in handling institution finances.
5. Messenger (1 post)
Duties and responsibilities
- Cleaning offices and washrooms.
- Cleaning around office premises.
- Receiving visitors and directing them to responsible officers.
- Cleaning around office premises.
- To carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must possess a Malawi school leaving certificate of education (MSCE) or Junior Certificate of Education (JCE).
- Committed and energetic person.
6. Security Guard (2 posts)
Duties and responsibilities
- Patrol areas and check doors, gates, and windows for signs of unauthorized entry.
- Supervising security guards
- Preparing duty roster
- Watch for irregularities (e.g. fire hazards, leaking water pipes, lights left on, equipment malfunctions, unlocked security doors) and report incidents or problems to the appropriate authority.
- Record times of inspections and presence of authorized persons.
- Respond to alarms and check alarm system.
- Observe and report suspects to police, or apprehend offenders when appropriate and detain them until police arrive.
- Detect and report fraud, theft and other unlawful acts of employees.
- Work as gatekeeper to ensure that only authorized people or vehicles enter or leave the office premises.
- Carry out any authorized task from time to time as requested by the authority.
Qualifications & Experience
- Physically fit (may be required to pass a medical examination)
- Good hearing and eyesight
- Observant
- Responsible and trustworthy
- Assertive with good interpersonal skills
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- Able to pass a Police check
- A minimum of JCE.
- Ability to read and write
- Knowledge of and readiness to respect the principles of the Catholic Social Teaching.
