Job Description
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) with a mandate to promote standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production, processing or treatment and to provide for the verification and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments; and further to provide for matter incidental to or connected with standardization.
The MBS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested persons to fill the following vacancies:

Job title: Standards Officer (Chemicals & Textiles)
Grade: BS6
Reporting to: Senior Standards Officer (Chemicals and Textiles)
Department: Standards Development
Division: Chemicals & Textiles
Responsible for: None
Number of Posts: One (1)
Job Purpose: To draft national standards and supporting activities of Technical Committees.
Key roles and responsibilities
a) Registering new standardization work items;
b) Conducting information search pertaining to Standards writing activities;
c) Preparing draft standards for consideration by Technical Committees;
d) Organizing Technical Committee meetings;
e) Providing secretarial services to Technical Committee meetings;
f) Reviewing Malawi standards to keep them up to date with current trends;
g) Preparing and submitting draft standards to Standardization, Quality Assurance and Metrology (SQAM) Committee;
h) Preparing progress reports on quarterly basis;
i) Updating Technical Committee membership;
j) Advising Senior Standards Officer on matters pertaining to standards development; and
k) Participating in regional and international standardization programs
Requirements
Required Academic Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:
a) A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Applied Sciences or any relevant Natural Sciences;
b) At least 3 years’ working experience.
