Job Description
Mangochi Municipal Council is inviting applications from suitably qualified, self-motivated, and committed Malawians to fill the following vacant positions existing in its establishment.
POSITION 1: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Grade: K
Responsible to: Director of Administration
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing secretarial and administrative support to the office
- Receiving, recording, and dispatching correspondence
- Typing letters, reports, minutes, and other official documents
- Managing the Chief Executive Officer's diary and scheduling appointments and meetings
- Preparing meeting agendas and taking minutes
- Maintaining an effective filing and records management system
- Receiving visitors and handling telephone calls professionally
- Maintaining office supplies and ensuring efficient office operations
- Assisting in organising meetings, workshops, and official functions
- Performing any other duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Office Administration, Business Administration, or a related field obtained from a recognised institution
- A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
- A minimum of two (2) years' relevant work experience in a reputable organisation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- High integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to work with minimum supervision

POSITION 2: MARKET MASTER
Grade: M/M10
Duty Station: Mangochi Central Market
Responsible to: Director of Commerce and Industry
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervising the day-to-day operations of the markets
- Ensuring proper allocation and management of market spaces, stalls, and lock-up shops
- Enforcing Council market by-laws, policies, and regulations
- Monitoring and coordinating market revenue collection in collaboration with the Finance Department
- Maintaining accurate records of traders, market occupancy, and revenue
- Supervising market staff and monitoring their performance
- Coordinating sanitation, waste management, and public health activities within the markets
- Addressing complaints and disputes involving traders in accordance with Council policies
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Preparing reports on daily operations, revenue performance, and emerging issues
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Certificate in Financial Accounting or any other related qualification obtained from a recognised institution
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

POSITION 3: TANKER OPERATOR
Grade: N
Responsible to: To be assigned
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operating the Council water tanker safely and in accordance with road traffic regulations
- Conducting routine inspections of the tanker before and after each trip
- Maintaining daily vehicle logbooks and fuel records
- Reporting mechanical faults, accidents, and other defects promptly
- Ensuring proper care, cleanliness, and security of the tanker and its accessories
- Performing basic routine maintenance and coordinating scheduled servicing
- Ensuring compliance with occupational safety and health requirements during tanker operations
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
- A valid Malawi Driving Licence with the appropriate class for operating heavy motor vehicles (Class C or its equivalent)
- A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- A minimum of three (3) years' experience in operating heavy motor vehicles, preferably water tankers or similar equipment
- Basic knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and road safety regulations
