OVERVIEW

Founded in 1987, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2,900,000 patients in 50 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) to strengthen access to quality treatment for HIV/AIDS tuberculosis (TB), and sexually transmitted infections (STls). AHF Malawi is providing these services in 38 hard-to-reach health facilities in Dedza, Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Nkhotakota, Chikwawa, and Nsanje Districts with expansion to Chiradzulu and Thyolo planned in 2026.


To accomplish its goals in the nation, AHF Malawi is seeking highly qualified and experienced candidates for the following employment opportunities.


Data Officer (2)


Reports to: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer


Duty Stations:


Maravi Health Center, Chiradzulu district

Kasinje Health Center, Ntcheu district

Position Summary


The Data Officer will be responsible for the collection, entry, validation, and management of client-level health data to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting across AHF-supported facilities. The role supports routine Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) functions, including data quality assurance, performance monitoring, and reporting in line with MOHS and AHF requirements.


The incumbent will also support EMR utilization, data analysis for decision-making, and collaborate with facility and community teams to strengthen client tracing, retention, and linkage to care for improved program outcomes. The Data Officer will be stationed at the hub facility while providing oversight and data management support to all AHF-supported facilities within the district.


Key Responsibilities


Coordinate collection, validation, and timely reporting of routine program data (weekly, monthly, quarterly) in alignment with reporting frameworks.

Manage data capture and integrity across EMRs, Web PPR, and Excel-based systems, ensuring compliance with data governance and security standards.

Generate analytical M&E reports and dashboards to support performance monitoring, strategic planning, and evidence-based decision-making.

Implement data quality assurance mechanisms, including routine data verification, validation, and Data Quality Audits (DQAs).

Collaborate with facility leadership and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen client tracking systems including missed appointments, defaulter tracing, and linkage/retention monitoring.

Ensure standardization, availability, and optimal utilization of data collection and reporting tools across all supported facilities.

Establish and maintain structured data management systems, including electronic and hardcopy filing, archiving, and retrieval processes.

Facilitate and actively participate in facility and district-level data review meetings, providing actionable insights and strengthening feedback loops for continuous quality improvement.

Support program planning processes, site activation, and staff capacity building through technical mentorship on M&E systems and data use.

Qualifications and Competencies


Possess an Advanced Diploma or higher in Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Public Health Informatics, or a related field.

Have at least 2 years of experience in data management within HIV/AIDS or public health programs.

Demonstrate solid knowledge of national HIV data systems, key indicators, and reporting frameworks.

Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to data protection standards.

Exhibit advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, dashboards), MS Access, and other Office applications.

Apply practical experience with EMRs, DHIS2, HMIS, and mobile data collection platforms (e.g., ODK, KoboCollect).

Show strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to maintain ≥99% data accuracy.

Effectively engage stakeholders and translate data into actionable insights for decision-making.

Design and interpret data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., Power BI) to support program performance monitoring and planning.
